Steve Burdette

Artist Steve Burdette was named Artist of the Month for December at the Weinberg Center for the Arts.

Through life we all experience circumstances out of our control. It was due to changes in Steve’s road of life that led him to his full time work as Artist. Steve has always loved to draw, since he was very young. His mother encouraged him to venture into the art world at an early age. In Steve’s mind he has always wanted to be an Artist. It was through the guidance and encouragement of family and teachers that he is drawing and painting today. Even after marrying his wife Kathy, she encouraged him to continue his pursuit of art. He received a Certificate in Art in 1995, from a school in Ohio. In 1994, after the death of his father, Steve faced some health issues that made him evaluate his career. Art has never been like work to him, with commissions from very interesting people, some with fond memories of family farms or homes, fire stations throughout the United States, yachts, and personal landscape scenes. Steve’s outgoing personality and laughter can never mask the seriousness he takes in his artwork.

Steve did an apprenticeship in Oils, and took most of his classes in Oils. He is a self-taught watercolorist. He enjoys working with Prismacolor pencils, as well as pen & ink. Through his eyes, he enjoys helping others see the beauty and wonders around them on paper and canvas. So many times, people overlook the beautiful views surrounding them. Steve portrays God’s masterpieces on his canvas to share the wonders we take for granted.

In February 2006, he started to use melted snow and rainwater when painting in watercolor. He finds it fulfilling to use natural water in his paintings. Since that time various artists have taken Steve’s personal idea and use them. Steve is always trying new and interesting ways to use his techniques in different methods. He also pays tribute to the men & women who work the land and give back so much to all of us in farming. As well, he gives recognition to firefighters, and there hard work in helping the community. Steve has prints of most all fire stations in Frederick County, MD and it has branched out to other communities as well.

Steve teaches private Art Classes, as well as holding Art Workshops at various locations around the tri-state area. A lot of times there are waiting lists for these classes. His students come various backgrounds and lifestyles; some come for relaxation, others interested in developing their talent. He adds laughter and technique development to each class. All students whether teens or adults are encouraged to develop their own technique and style. Steve does not have students copy his style, feeling that does not help them enhance their own originality. He also has his own line of Art instruction videos, which are in the process of being put on DVD’s.
